I’ve been watching Hurricane Polo pretty closely this week, and I’m guessing a lot of you have too. It’s regained Category 5 strength off the mainland coast, with winds somewhere around 160 to 175 mph. The good news is the models have the core staying mostly offshore, or weakening to a Category 3 as it gets closer. Either way, we’re going to feel the edges of it here in Todos Santos.
It looks like things will start getting rough Saturday morning, September 27, and hang around into early next week. Expect heavy rain, sticky humidity, gusty winds, and some massive surf along the coast.
When it comes to the storm pantry, canned tuna, sardines, beans, and tortillas are usually the heroes when the power drops. A few limes and a can of Clamato go a long way, too. The real trick is sticking to smaller, single-serving cans so you aren’t dealing with spoiling leftovers when the fridge is out of commission.
If you have a few minutes today, it never hurts to pull in the patio furniture, double-check the tinacos, and touch base with your neighbours. Stay safe out there this weekend.
